About Us

Our team has over 100 years of backcountry Alaskan experience. Their intimate knowledge of the rhythms of the land, the movement of wildlife, the history and geography are unequaled in the area. Let them show you why this is the most amazing place on earth!

Urban Rahoi

Urban Rahoi came to Alaska in the early 1950's, building the lodge at Ptarmigan Lake as an exclusive retreat for himself and a few private, hand-picked guests. Governors, NFL players, and Alaska-famous pioneers have all called Ptarmigan Lake Lodge their 'home in the mountains'.

Urban built the lodge to be an escape for people seeking relief from the rat-race of 'normal' life, for families needing to be together sharing genuine experiences, and for individuals looking to re-connect with the real Alaska.

Riley Knighton

Riley Knighton has resided year round at Ptarmigan as a caretaker, manager and wrangler for the last 18 years. Riley has worked and traveled in the back-country of Alaska for over three decades. He knows every nook and cranny in these mountains and loves introducing guests to the secret corners and awesome vistas he lives in every day.

Striker Overly

Striker Overly was born and raised in the Alaskan backcountry, living a life that many have dreamed of but few have achieved. He has lived a subsistence lifestyle for over 30 years and is entirely committed to the land that has been his home. As a guide for over 20 years, he has introduced hundreds of people to the wonders of the mountains. He's unparalleled in wilderness experience, and will show you places in his back yard beyond your imagination.
